FALL RIVER…George R. Schmidt, 83 of Fall River passed away April 11, 2014 at Highlander Nursing Home, Fall River.
He was the husband of Joanne (Farias) Schmidt of Fall River.
Born in Valley Township, PA, he was a son of the late Paul A. and Ida (Schmidt) Schmidt and had lived in Fall River since 1953.
Mr. Schmidt was a 20 year veteran of the United States Navy, working as a Gunner’s Mate 1st Class, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Grace Gospel Church in Swansea where he was a collector and usher.
Along with his loving wife, Mr. Schmidt is survived by 2 daughters: Donna Pacheco and her husband Kevin of Fall River, and Darlene Pereira and her husband Mario of Fall River, 2 sons: George Schmidt and his wife Laurie of Fall River and Paul A. Schmidt and his wife Cidalia of Fall River, 2 brothers: Jack Schmidt of Myrtle Beach, SC and Paul “Sunny” Schmidt of CA, 3 brothers-in-law: Paul Farias, Robert Farias, Donald Farias, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Elsie Graham.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Tuesday at 10 AM at Grace Gospel Church, 271 Sharps Lot Rd, Swansea, MA 02777. Calling hours will be held Monday from 5-8 PM at SOUTH COAST FUNERAL HOME, 1555 Pleasant St. Fall River. In lieu of flowers, donations in George’s name can be made to St. Vincent’s Emergency Clothing Fund, 2425 Highland Ave. Fall River, MA 02720.
