Verly D. (Gagnon) Simpson

Verly D. (Gagnon) Simpson, 85 of Peabody, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Continuing Care at Brooksby Village, following a long illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Carroll F. Simpson.

Born and raised in Skowhegan, Maine she was the daughter of the late Ludger and Ida (Cyr) Gagnon. Verly and her young family moved to Salem from Skowhegan 60 years ago. She retired from Sylvania in 1994 with 35 years with the company, and was a member of the Sylvania Quarter Century Club. She was a member of St. James Parish of Salem.

Verly loved dancing and music. She and her late husband were also passionate about their cooking. Together they created many wonderful dishes for family and friends. She was an avid bowler, and member of a league that met weekly at the Sunnyside Bowling Lanes in Danvers.

She is survived by a son, Daniel W. Simpson and his wife Diane of Ossipee, NH, a daughter, Dianne L Coleman and her husband Richard of Peabody, a sister Sandy Whittmore of Skowhegan, 5 grandchildren Daniel W. Simpson, Jr., Jonathan Simpson, Allan C., Brett & Elise Coleman, 3 great-grandchildren, Wesley N. Simpson, Georgia Simpson and Daniel W. Simpson, III, as well as nieces and nephews. Verly was one of 18 siblings.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visiting hours on Monday, April 14, 2014 at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem from 8:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. to be followed by her funeral mass in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers’s Assoc MA/NH Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
