Obituary

FITZGERALD, Virginia A. (Ginny) 91, of Norwood, wife of the late Joseph W. Fitzgerald, Sr., died April 2, 2014, at the Briarwood Rehabilitation Hospital in Needham.

Ginny was the daughter of the late Mike & Laura Scannell of Manchester, N.H. She was also predeceased by her sister, Ellen, and her brothers Larry, Bob, Ray and Donald.

She and Joe had a magnificent marriage which began in Roxbury where they became parents to Joe (and the late Carol), Dee (and Tony Hegarty), and Bob (and Tina).

Later, after moving to West Roxbury, they became grandparents to Mike (and Kerri) Fitzgerald, Kate (and Colin) Kelley, Tim Fitzgerald, Kara (and Teddy) Fannon, Ryan Fitzgerald, and Brent (and Lauren) Fitzgerald.

Ginny would eventually become the great-great grandmother of Xavier Kelley, Cameron Fitzgerald, Lainie Kelley, Kendall Fannon and Skylar Fitzgerald. She also had nephews and nieces in Florida and Michigan.

Over a long, well-lived, richly blessed lifetime she would be at her husband's side in many state and local political campaigns he helped to manage; she would be a member of Eastern Star, complementing his membership in the Masons; and, later in life, she would maintain an active schedule with a circle of friends at the former Evangelical Free Church in Westwood.

But her family was Ginny's everlasting delight, along with treasured friends, including some she met when she came to Boston to be a young bride in 1942. When you became her friend, you had a friend for life.

She was a lady of warmth, grace, dignity and a faith that comforted her with the blessed assurance of a reunion that's already taken place.

Her burial was private. A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. this Saturday, April 12 at the United Church of Norwood, 595 Washington Street, Norwood. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
