Obituary



Virginia M. (Memmo) Vaughan age 79 of Brockton, died Thursday April 3, 2014 at Signature Healthcare after a short illness. She was the devoted wife of Ralph F. Vaughan for 59 years. Virginia was born and raised in Hyde Park a daughter of the late Nicholas and Angelina (Ralli) Memmo and had been a resident of Brockton for over 50 years.

A 1952 graduate of Hyde Park High School, Virginia was a self made woman of the 1950s. She was on the executive track of John Hancock Insurance when she left to stay home and raise her children. Virginia retired as the executive director of the Brockton Retirement Board after many years of service. She was an avid bingo player and loved to bowl. She was an accomplished knitter who enjoyed making sweaters for family members. Virginia will be remembered as a strong woman who was the matriarch of the family and incredibly kind and generous.

In addition to her husband, Virginia is survived by her children William G. Vaughan and his wife Jo-Ann Marzullo of Billerica and Lisa J. Prosper and her husband Steven of Norton. She leaves four grandchildren Nathan Vaughan, Christopher Vaughan, Kyla Prosper and Krystal Prosper and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of Mary Ricci of Hyde Park, Rose West of Hull, Janet Bartlett of Norwood, Joie Son of Dedham and the late Nicholas Memmo, Jr. and Ann Totti. She was the sister-in-law of Leonard Vaughan of Arlington, VA.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (rte 123) Brockton on Sunday 2-5 pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 9 am for a Funeral Mass in Christ the King Church at 10 am. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in Virginia’s name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
