Obituary

North Smithfield
Richard E. Sutherland 76, of Branch Ave., died Monday at the Friendly Home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Claire (Choquette) Sutherland. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Lucien and Blanche (Dussault) Sutherland. Richard worked in the Maintenance department of General Motors for thirty years, retiring in 1993. He was a Vietnam Army veteran. Richard was an avid tennis player, and a coach for the North Stars hockey team, he also enjoyed camping. He was awarded an Athletic Letter from Mt St. Charles as a testimonial of ability, fidelity and sportsmanship, as a symbol of Football Honors in 1954.

A loving father and grandfather, he is survived by two daughters Debra Aubin and her husband Robert of Johnston, and Paula Sutherland of Woonsocket, a granddaughter Sarah and great-grandson Zackary. He also leaves three brothers; Roger Sutherland of North Smithfield, Raymond Sutherland of Cape Cod, and Ronald Sutherland of Largo, FL, two sisters; Pauline Favre of New Orleans and Elaine Paquin of North Smithfield, and was predeceased by his brother Paul Sutherland and his sister Lucille Brunelle.

His funeral will be held Tuesday at 9:00 Am from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home 463 South Main St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham.
