New Bedford - Norberto Mendez, age 86 of New Bedford, passed away, peacefully, on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Sacred Heart Home. He was the loving husband of 61 years to Crusita (Vega) Mendez and the son of Manuela (Marrero) and John Mendez. He was born in Puerto Rico and served as a Merchant Marine for 42 years until his retirement.
Mr. Mendez was a proud member of the New Bedford Auxiliary Police.
He leaves behind his wife, Crusita Mendez of New Bedford; 2 daughters: Marina Silva and Narda Mendez Calel, both of New Bedford; 2 grandchildren: Nathan and Alyssa Silva, both of New Bedford, as well as 2 sisters: Grace Mendez and Maria Nelson.
In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Mendez will be cremated. There will be a Memorial Mass with his cremains present at St. Lawrence Martyr Church on Saturday, April 12 at 9:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and are asked to meet directly at church. Visitation is omitted. Arrangements placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. in New Bedford.
