Obituary

Paul A. Simard Sr., 90, of Diana St., died Monday surrounded by his family in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, MA. He was the husband of Rose B. (Parenteau) Simard. Born in Canada he was a son of the late Joseph and Yvonne (Tremblay) Simard and was predeceased by six siblings.

Mr. Simard owned and operated Simard Custom Upholstery in Blackstone for more than twenty five years. He was a member of the Woonsocket Lodge of Elks and a life member of the Blackstone Lions Club. Mr. Simard served two years during WWII in the Canadian Army.

Mr. Simard was a longtime Red Sox fan and held season tickets in the 1960s with his good friend, Attilio Valati. He also loved hockey and remained true to his team, the Montreal Canadiens. Mr. Simard enjoyed travel, spending time with his family, and playing cards.

In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons, Paul A. Simard Jr. and his wife Nancy, of Wellesley, MA.; Raymond M. Simard and his wife Linda, of Skokie, IL.; and Richard J. Simard of Worcester, MA.; two daughters, Jacqueline C. Simard of Princeton, NJ.; and Claudette L. Simard of Blackstone, six grandchildren., and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews locally and was the uncle to many nieces and nephews in Canada.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Theresa’s Church, Rathbun St., Blackstone. Burial will be held in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham. Family and friends are invited to Visiting Hours, Wednesday 5-8 PM.
