Mr. Albert John "Al" Donoghue, age 80, died, Saturday, March 29, 2014, in Newton after a brief illness. Al was born in Cambridge and was the son of the late Mary E. (Tierney) & John P. Donoghue.
Al was a Woburn resident since 1992, formerly of Arlington. He served proudly with the US Army from 1954 to 1956, during the Korean War. He worked for the Town of Arlington as a heavy equipment operator with the highway department and with the maintenance dept. for the United States Post Office. Al was also a member of multiple veteran and fraternal organizations throughout his life. Nothing made Al happier than just being around his children and especially his loving grandchildren.
Al was the beloved husband for 46 years to the late Dorothy Ann (Gelinas) Donoghue. Devoted father of Michael Donoghue of Lynn, Joanne Harney of Falmouth, Eddie Donoghue of Arlington, David Donoghue of Missoula, MT, Janet Flodstrom of Stratham, NH, Patricia Nadeau of Maynard and Fran Donoghue of Haverhill. Also survived by 14 loving Grandchildren and his best friend Ruby the dog. Brother of Thomas Donoghue and his wife Terry of Waltham. Brother in law of Donald Gelinas and his wife Anne Marie of Burlington. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. WOBURN, Friday April 4th at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Agnes Church, 51 Medford St. Arlington at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.
It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in Al’s name to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.
