NEWCOMBE, Virginia of Needham died on March 20, 2014 at Briarwood Healthcare, Needham, MA after a period of declining health. She had celebrated her 95th birthday on March 10. She was the eldest daughter of John and Anna Ellis, and is survived by her sister Barbara Grover of Appleton, Maine. Her husband of 46 years, Leland "Mickey" Newcombe, died in 1986. Virginia worked for more than 30 years as an insurance office manager in Boston. After retiring to Wells, Maine, she earned her B.A. degree in History at the University of Southern Maine, and also travelled several times to Europe. Virginia is survived by two daughters: Ginger Shapiro of Needham, MA and Victoria Newcombe of Rich Square, NC. Her third daughter, Debora Brooks of Harvard, MA, died in 1994. Virginia will also be missed by six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Burial in Harvard, MA will be private.
