Obituary

Charles Gedeas Rondeau, age 87, formerly of Natick, died on Monday, March 17, 2014, at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham surrounded by his children. He was the devoted husband of the late Dorothy E. (Lynch) Rondeau.

Born and raised in Woonsocket, RI, he was a son of the late Gedeas and Elosia (Fregeau) Rondeau. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1944 and served aboard the USS Hughes in all of the WWII Theatres, including the Liberation of the Philippines and the Occupation of Japan.

The Rondeau’s married in 1951, and settled in his wife’s hometown of Natick. Charles worked at the S & H Warehouse in Natick for many years. He then joined the Wellesley Public Library as driver for the Inter-Library Loan System covering libraries in over 40 towns and took pride in ensuring items arrived in the hands of those eagerly awaiting them. He relished time with his wife and children, attending sporting and scholastic events, and enjoyed trips with them to beaches and amusement parks. Weeks at cottages near the beach were greatly anticipated every year by the whole family. A man of faith, Charles loved life and considered himself the luckiest guy in the world. He touched countless lives with his optimism, ever-present smile, sense of humor, cheer and kindness. His greatest joy was found in spreading joy to others.

He is survived by his children, Michael C. Rondeau and his wife Lee of Hopedale, Stephen A. Rondeau of Natick, Maureen A. Rondeau of Framingham, and Timothy S. Rondeau of Winterville, GA; and four grandchildren, Angie, Michelle, Tim and Megan; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Pauline Cournoyer.

His memorial service will be at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Friday, March 28th at 10:30a.m. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday 4 – 7p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Assoc, 10 Speen St, Framingham, MA 01701.
