Obituary


Randall L. Purdy, 87, beloved and Christian husband of the late Dolores E. Purdy passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2014 after a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Bellevue Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Terry Doss officiating.
Mr. Purdy enlisted in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and participated in numerous battles in the Pacific Campaigns as a Gunner’s Mate aboard the USS Calloway. He was honorably discharged after the War. Mr. Purdy was employed for newspapers in Oklahoma City OK, Tulsa OK and Dallas TX. He owned Oklahoma Mat and Plate located in Oklahoma City, OK. After retirement he joyously worked as a Greeter in the Garden Department of WalMart on Bobby Jones Expressway. He loved his contact with the employees and the public.
Mr. Purdy invested his life in loving and serving Jesus Christ through his family and the church. He was a member of Abilene Baptist Church and a member of the Jim Dixon Sunday School Class. He is survived by two sons, Randall Lee Purdy, Jr. (Christine) and Charles Scott Purdy, one daughter, Kathleen Diane Grant (Everard III), four grandchildren, Everard “Bear” (Amanda) Grant, Joshua (Sarah) Grant, Kristen Purdy McSorley, Jason (Robin) Purdy, Angela (Duran) Gray, seven great-grandchildren, Peyton and Cooper Grant, Brooklyn Grant, Elijah, McKenzie, and Addison Purdy, Ember McSorley, and Ashton Gray. He was blessed knowing that two additional great-grandchildren would arrive soon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, parents, Randall W. and Vivian Purdy, sister, Catherine (Jesse) Brooks who is sharing the beautiful presence of Jesus Christ in Heaven that was his destination.
The family wishes to thank his caregivers on the third floor at Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home for their loving care and attention during his final illness. The family will be eternally grateful to the staff.
Pallbearers will be Randall Lee Purdy, Jr., Everard Grant III, Charles Scott Purdy, Everard “Bear” Grant IV, Joshua Grant, Jason Purdy, and Kristen Purdy McSorley. He will be buried with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time of service at Bellevue Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.
