Obituary

Worcester: Ernest Koumpis, 67, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family after an illness. His beloved wife of 25 years, Robin L. (Johnson) Koumpis predeceased him in 2010. He leaves a son Derek Koumpis of North Grafton; a daughter- Eleni Koumpis and her fiance Benjamin Pasley; 3 grandchildren- Tyrae Sims, Arianna Sims, and William Koumpis-Sims; 2 sisters and their husbands- Loula and Nick Vlahos of Dedham and Agnes and Arthur Tsourides of Shrewsbury; 2 best friends who were like brothers to him- Chris Pagonis of Worcester and Thomas Pagonis of Oakham; his father and mother-in-law Richard C. and Janet Johnson of Hudson; a brother-in-law Richard L. Johnson of Hudson; 2 sister in laws and their husbands- Rhonda and William Casey of Longmont, CO and Roberta and Chris Blake of Hudson; many nieces, nephews, and Godchildren.

Ernest was born in Kastoria, Greece son of the late Haralambos and Eleni (Bartzokis) Koumpis. He came to America in 1958 and graduated from Classical High School in Worcester. He worked as a design engineer for many years at Morgan Construction Co and Babcock Power Co. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved spending time with family and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. in Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester, MA 01605. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St. Worcester, MA 01609. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
