Obituary

Eleanor T. Sline, 93, a lifetime resident of East Walpole, died of natural causes on March 6th at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood. The daughter of the late William F. and Agnes (Nugent) Sline was born in 1920 in Norwood, MA.

She was a graduate of Walpole High School and Regis College. She then received a Master’s degree from Boston University and did further graduate work at Boston College.

Ms. Sline was an educator for 37 years. She began her teaching career as a home economics teacher in Lisbon, New Hampshire and Westerly, RI. She then taught at Norwood Junior High for eight years before moving on to teach at Walpole High. In the last 15 years of her career she served as a guidance counselor at Walpole High School. During her career she was loved by and had a profound influence on many of her students.

She is survived by two nephews, Richard William Sline (Layton, UT) and Paul Christopher Sline (Appleton, WI), the sons of her older brother, the late William F. Sline, Jr. and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother William (Omaha, NE), her older sister, Marjorie A. Sline (East Walpole), and her niece Janet Claire (Sline) Heimbuch (Omaha, NE).

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Friday May 23, 2014 at St. Mary’s Church in East Walpole followed by internment at St. Francis Cemetery in South Walpole.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank their dear friends, Peg and Ed Lenox (Wrentham) and Chuck Mahoney (Providence, RI) for their tireless devotion and support of Ellie in her last years and days.
