Mary H. Perra

Mary H. Perra, 80, a 45-year resident of Winchester, passed away March 7, peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife for 57 years of Serafino “Sal” Perra. Born in Everett, MA, Mary was the daughter of the late Wallace L. and Anna (Betts) Henderson. She was raised and educated in Stoneham, and graduated from Stoneham High School in 1950. She attended the University of New Hampshire and pursued a double major in French Literature and English. Upon graduation, she began her lifelong teaching career in Islip, Long Island, then also taught in Arlington, MA and finished her career at Our Lady Academy in Waltham, where she was awarded Teacher of the Year by the City of Waltham. A loving and devoted mother, Mary was very active in her children’s lives. In Winchester, she served as President of the Lincoln School PTO and was a member of the Young Women’s Club. In her spare time, Mrs. Perra was an avid reader, and also enjoyed travel, the theater, playing cards with her grandchildren, hosting parties in Winchester, and summering in Falmouth. In addition to her husband Sal, she is survived by her children: Stephen J. Perra and his wife Catherine of Tolland, CT, Susanne P. Bues and her husband Martin of Scottsdale, AZ, John D. Perra and Aine Doyle of Charleston, SC and Sallyann P. DiAngelis and her husband John of Arlington. She was also the dear sister of Carolyn and her late husband Dave Barney of Canaan, NH, and is further survived by her adoring grandchildren: Brendan and Amanda Perra, Hannah and Emily Bues, Kevin and Zoe DiAngelis, many nieces, nephews and loving friends. Funeral from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester, on Tues. March 11th at 11AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Eulalia’s Church, 50 Ridge St., Winchester at 12noon. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Monday from 4-8PM. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
