Patricia “Patty” (Hernon) Rice, 48, of Medway passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side on Monday, March 3, 2014 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of William “Bill” Rice since 1989.
Born in Boston on June 30, 1965, Patty was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mildred “Ann” (Cooper) Hernon.
Patty was a resident of Medway since 1990. She grew up in the Hyde Park section of Boston, graduated from Mission Hill High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Boston College.
For the past four years, Patty worked in the payroll department at Wellesley College. However, her life truly revolved around her family, teaching her children proper values, and homemaking. It is within this context that Patty will be remembered as a great mother and wife.
Patty cherished spending time with her family vacationing at the beaches of Cape Cod where she enjoyed boating, fishing and tubing. Patty also had a love of cooking and sewing.
Patty was a cycling enthusiast, enjoyed jogging, working out, swimming and hiking with her husband.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her three children, Patrick, Erin and John Rice, all of Medway.
Patty is also survived by five sisters, JoAnn Gaine of Braintree, Carol Lee Henderson and Kelly Hernon both of Hyde Park, Ann Josie of Walpole and Christen Mayfield of South Carolina, three brothers, Joseph and Francis Hernon, both of Norwood and Douglas Hernon of Quincy and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) on Thursday, March 6 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 10 a.m.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m.
