CHICOPEE – Gordon Barber Anderson, 65, of the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, February 25, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Springfield on July 25, 1948, a beloved son of the late Robert L. and Elizabeth C. (Hurd) Anderson. He was raised and schooled in Somers, Connecticut and lived there for many years. During the summer months, Gordon loved spending time with his family and friends on Baker’s Island. He later lived in Holyoke and South Hadley before moving to Chicopee several years ago. Gordon served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Service Medal and attained the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He was employed for 32 years as an audio visual technician at Precision Camera in Chicopee and Enfield, CT. He leaves his two devoted sisters, Susan Smith and her husband, Phillip, of Derry, NH, and Dody Abbe and her husband, Dick, of Binghamton, NY; his five cherished nephews, nieces and two cherished grandnieces, Kelly Smith and his wife, Stacy, and their children, Heidi and Taylor, Kristopher Smith and his wife, Kimberly, Kerry Ann Smith, Gregory Abbe and Melanie Abbe. A Service of Committal with US Army Military Honors will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
