Obituary

NATICK: Jean M. (McCarty) Foley, age 90, a retired Natick teacher and long active member of Saint Patrick’s Parish, died peacefully on Thursday morning, December 19, 2013, at Bethany Health Care Center in Framingham.

Born and raised in Natick, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Florence (Mahaney) McCarty. Jean was graduated from Natick High School in 1940 and continued her education at Framingham State Teachers’ College. After earning her degree in 1944, she taught in East Hartford, CT for two years.

Jean returned to Natick, married and created a warm and loving home for her growing family. She returned to teaching in 1968, first with Natick’s Head Start program and then as a first grade teacher at the Johnson School. She retired in 1991. A member of the choir at St. Patrick’s Church, Jean had also taught Religious Education classes and had joined fellow parishioners on a mission to El Salvador. She loved reading and had enjoyed traveling to and participating in archaeological digs. She was devoted to Open Door in Natick, had been on the Board of Directors of the Natick Senior Center, and was a member of the Framingham State University Alumni Association. Happiest with her large family about her, Jean was also fond of gardening and yoga.

She is survived by her children, James C. Foley and wife Carol of Bellingham, Daniel R. Foley and wife Claudia of Vienna, ME, Barbara Larson and husband Corbit of Framingham, Martha Dutton Harris and husband Clarke of North Andover, Paul F. Foley and wife Maria of Coronado, CA, Richard W. Foley of Seward, AK, and Janet Pollock and husband Matthew of Berkley; her sisters, Eileen Martin of NH, and Mary Roelke of Natick; a dear cousin, Kay Marshall of Framingham; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Sr. Ethelina (Ann McCarty), CSJ, and a brother, Donald McCarty.

Her Funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, on Tuesday, December 24th at 9:00a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on Monday, December 23rd from 3 - 6p.m. Donations may be made in Jean’s memory to the Bethany Healthcare Center, Mission Advancement Office, 97 Bethany Road, Framingham, MA 01702.
