Obituary

On November 2, 2013 Thomas Melvin Bailey, Sr succumbed after a long battle with cancer and dysphasia. Mr. Bailey was a devout Catholic, prolific writer, tireless advocate, incredible wordsmith and orator. He was a highly decorated WWII Veteran (Legion of Merit) and served as Past National Commander of the Catholic War Veterans, Captain in the Baltimore City Fire Department, Chief Master Sergeant (Ret.) of the U.S. Army Corps and Air Force Reserves/Air National Guard and Chairman of the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.

Mr. Bailey lived well, accomplished much, and made a difference in all endeavors he undertook. His proudest legacy is his family – his loving wife Thelma M. Bailey “Sweetie” (Nee Smith), Kathi and Gene Petrowski and their sons Dave and Dan, Tom and Mary Bailey, and Kevin and Michele Bailey and her son Matt, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and legions of friends.

Friends may call at The Johnson-Fosbrink Funeral Home, P.A., on Tuesday, November 5th, and Wednesday, November 6th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. All are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Thursday, November 7th, at 9:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, 5502 York Road, Baltimore, MD 21222 . Military interment arrangements are in process. Family request that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, ATTN: Veterans Assistance Fund, 29449 Charlotte Hall Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622 or to a personal charity in Mr. Bailey’s name.
