Firmino Duarte Sousa, age 86 of Fall River, passed away December 31, 2012 at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Mary Helen (Gonsalves) Sousa, formerly Aguiar and the late Theresa (De Ponte) Sousa. Born in Fenais da Luz, São Miguel, Açores, he was son of the late Firmino Duarte Sousa & Maria Gloria (Reis) Sousa. Firmino was the owner & operator of Sousa Transportation Co. in Fall River which he founded with his late wife Theresa; previously, he had been owner operator of FDS Drain Layer. He was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Michael D. Sousa of Fall River & David D. Sousa (wife Barbara) of Springfield, PA; a stepson: Michael Aguiar of Fall River; grandsons: David & Matthew Sousa of PA; step granddaughter: Sierra Aguiar of Fall River; siblings: Rosa Patricio (husband Gabriel) & Alfred Duarte (wife Eduarda) both of Fall River; sister-in-law Donatilda Sousa and brother-in law Renato Tavares both of Fall River, many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Agostinho D. Sousa, Maria Dos Anjos Tavares & Maria Lourdes Duarte.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River SATURDAY at 7:45A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael Church, Essex St. at 9:00 A.M. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery. Calling hours FRIDAY from 4-8 P.M. www.rogersfuneral.com.
