Obituary

Hilda Lopes, 95, of New Bedford died Monday December 24, 2012 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home.

Born and raised in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Antonio and Carolina (Barros) Lopes, she lived in Connecticut for 50 years before returning to New Bedford.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.

Miss Lopes was formerly employed at the Sterling Retirement Home in Bridgeport, CT until her retirement.

She enjoyed doing arts and crafts and singing, and had been a member of her church choir while living in Connecticut.

Hilda was a devoted daughter, loving sister, and cherished aunt. She was always there to take care of her nieces and nephews. She was enriched with grace and had a code of discipline, rare unconditional love, and generosity of spirit.

She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Fulovia Depina, Mabel Gibau, Caroline Martin, Julia Lopes, Minnie Lopes, John Lopes, Theophilus Lopes, Joseph Lopes, and Isadore Gonsalves.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Assumption Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.
