SALEM - Thaddeus J. “Ted” Hull, 80, of Salem, died at his home on Thursday, September 6, 2012, following a long illness.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Walter J. and Phyllis (Matula) Hull, and step-son of the late Stella Hull. Raised in Salem, he was a graduate of Salem High School.
An Army veteran, Ted served in the National Guard for a year before enlisting in the Army, where he served in Bamberg, Germany during the Korean Conflict and held the rank of Private-2.
Mr. Hull was employed as a Salem firefighter for 32 years. He was appointed to the department in 1956 and retired from Engine 4 in 1988.
A resident of Salem for most of his life, Ted was a member of several veterans organizations in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Beverly and Salem, including the VFW, Witch City Post 1524 and the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post 55, both of Salem. He belonged to social clubs including the Polish, Russian, Lithuanian, American Citizens Club in Danvers and the Crow II Club in Salem. He was proud of his Polish heritage and enjoyed dancing at many Polish functions over the years.
Ted is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Honora and William Griebel of Lynn, a grandson, Christopher Griebel of Lynn;his uncle and aunt, Stanley and Muriel Matula of Salem; a step-brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jean Hull and their family of Concord, MA, and many cousins.
The 10:15 AM Mass on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at St. James Church, Federal St., Salem will be offered in his memory. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem.
