AUBURN - Philip J. Ginkus, 72, of 7 Mount View Ave., died Saturday evening at the VA Medical Center in the West Roxbury section of Boston, after a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 4 years, Daiva Burba Ginkus; 3 step-sons, Alan, Karl, and Gustav Burba, all of Auburn. He also leaves his extended family including many cousins and a nephew. His brother, Richard Ginkus and his step-father John Spirauskas, both predeceased him. He was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late Alphonse and Frances A. (Pupkar) Ginkus, graduated from Worcester’s South High School and also attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. He was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a radio operator aboard the USS Boston.
Philip worked as a drafting engineer at several area companies. He was recognized in a national art magazine for his work on a mural he designed and painted for a garden in the town of Lexington. He was a member of St. John’s Church and a former member of St. Casmir’s Church, both in Worcester. He enjoyed O Scale model trains and was a member of the Southern New England Model Railroad Club based in Gardner, MA. He also enjoyed traveling, photography and watching his beloved Red Sox when regularly attending games at Fenway Park.
CALLING HOURS will be held from 5 to 8 P.M. on TUESDAY, JULY 10 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 154 Lincoln St., Worcester. A FUNERAL MASS will be held at 10 A.M. on WEDNESDAY, JULY 11 at ST. JOHN’S CHURCH, 40 Temple St., Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
