Robert “Papa” Brooks, 72, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, July 2, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 4 P.M., Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with the Rev. David Barton and the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. A granddaughter, April Roberts, will do a reading. Interment will follow in the Pinetta Cemetery, Irwin County. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Brooks was born June 3, 1940 in Fitzgerald to the late Shelley Bee & Donna Mae Gibbs Brooks. He was a 1958 graduate of Irwin County High School and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He was a former meat supervisor for Lowell Packing Company. He was also a former employee of Harper Motor Lines, Dixie Oil Company, and worked as a remodeling/maintenance man for David Sims. He enjoyed fishing and watching wrestling and “Swamp People”. Mr. Brooks was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a member of Englewood Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife: Mae Wilma Griffin Brooks of Fitzgerald; three daughters and sons-in-law: Viva Mae & Durham Wilcox of Abbeville, Wendy Kaye Reeves of Fitzgerald, and Connie & Prinio Snyder of Amhurst, Virginia; one son: William Alvin Reeves of Fitzgerald; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law: Roy & Geraldine Brooks of Irwinville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a son: Danny Wade Reeves, an infant daughter, and an infant sister.
