Obituary

Betty A. (Melvin) Blaikie, a 41 year resident of Lawrence and formerly of Charlestown and Somerville, passed into eternal life on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington following an extended illness. She was 71 years old.

Betty was born in Revere on February 22, 1941 to the late Henry A. Melvin and Helen V. (Payne) Melvin. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended the Boston Public School system. Betty worked for over 29 years as a solderer at Raytheon Corporation and recieved several awards for her ideas and initiatives into the soldering process. Betty loved bingo, crocheting, flea markets and arts and crafts.

Betty is the beloved wife of the late John F. Blaikie Sr. She is the devoted mother of Helen Parent of Haverhill, John F. Blaikie Jr. and his wife Susan of Londonderry, New Hampshire and Janice Kennedy and her husband John of East Boston. She is the loving Nana to 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Leroy "Chub" Melvin of Charlestown, Charles Melvin of Charlestown, Richard Melvin of Somerville, Norma Johnson of Florida and the late Helen Arnold, Junior Melvin, Fred Melvin and Daniel Melvin. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Betty's Funeral on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St. Melrose followed by her Funeral Mass in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield at 10 a.m. Interment at Forest Glade Cemetery in Wakefield. Visiting hours on Monday, April 16, 2012 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
