Albert W. Castonguay

Salem: Albert W. Castonguay, age 79 of Salem, died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Grosvenor Park Nursing Center, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Geraldine A. (Cronin) Castonguay, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late William and Lillian (Breault) Castonguay. Upon his graduation, Al joined the Army and served in Korea in Company G of the 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, for which he was the recipient of several decorations including the Purple Heart. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Salem and worked for the former CBS Hytron. With the closing of Hytron, he began working for Tri City Sales, Salem, where he worked as service manager for nearly 40 years. After his retirement, he drove for the Salem Council on Aging for the next 5 years.

Al was a former Scout Master for Troop 159, and was also a former treasurer for the Danvers Fish and Game Club, as well as a member of the Franco American Club of Beverly.
Among the many things Al had to be proud of, he was most proud of being a member of St. James Church Choir.

In addition to his wife Gerri, he is survived by 2 daughters, Ann M. and her husband Marc S. Levesque and their children Matthew and Daniel all of Beverly, Janice A. and her husband Charles H. Stammer and their children Zachary and Leah all of Oldsmar, FL, a son William A. and his wife Pamela M. Castonguay and their son Cameron all of Salem. He is also survived by a brother Normand Castonguay and his wife Lena of Peabody, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry “Pete” Castonguay, and his sister, Lorraine Rutkowski.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 9:45 A.M. to be followed by his funeral mass in St. James Church, Federal St., Salem at 11:00 A.M. Visiting hours are Friday (today) 4 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
