HELEN (LEE) BARBER, 95, of Hingham, formerly of Buzzards Bay, died on Thursday, March 22nd, 2012 at the Colonial Nursing Home in Weymouth. Mrs. Barber was born in Boston where she was raised and educated. She lived in Jamaica Plain for many years before moving to Buzzards Bay where she was active in her church and community affairs. She came to Hingham 7 years ago. Mrs. Barber was employed by Cathedral High School in Boston as an office worker and enjoyed travelling with her late husband, Paul L. Barber.
She was the mother of James R. Barber and his wife Maria of Hull, Paul L. Barber and his late wife Judy of Phoenix, AZ, Richard F. Barber of No. Scituate, RI and the late Patricia A. Barber. Sister of Katherine Alexander of Rockland. Grandmother of Dominic Barber, Christina Barber and her husband Michael McCarthy, Andrea Salzillo and her husband Stephen, Christos Davidopoulos and Paul Davidopoulos and his wife Courtney. Great grandmother of Lily, Celia, Mario, Noah and Matthew.
Funeral Monday, March 26th at 9 AM from the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham followed by a funeral mass at St. Paul's Church, 147 North St., Hingham Square at 10 AM.
Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel on Sunday from 2-5 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Helen’s memory be made to: FSMA (Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy) 925 Busse Rd., Elk Grove Village, IL 60007.
The interment in the Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne is to be private.
