New Bedford – Maria da Encarnação (Moniz) Ferreira , age 97 years died Thursday, March 22, 2012 at home with her family by her side. She was four day shy of her 98th Birthday. Maria was the widow of Manuel Ferreira. She was the loved mother of Manuel Adelino Ferreira and his wife Isabel A. Ferreira of New Bedford, Maria Idalina Matos and her husband Jose S. Matos of Dartmouth, Maria do Carmo Ferreira of New Bedford, Gilberto Moniz Ferreira of New Bedford and Armando Moniz Ferreira and his wife Maria Cesaltina Ferreira of New Bedford. Maria is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, a sister Clotilde Moniz in São Miguel and a brother Jaime Moniz in Canada, Several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ferreira was a daughter of the late Manuel Moniz Clemente and Jorgina Conceição Tavares. Maria was born in Ribeira das Tainhas, São Miguel, Açores. She has lived in New Bedford since 1974. Maria was a stitcher in local factories until her retirement.
Mrs. Ferreira’s funeral will be Saturday at Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. at 7:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 8:45 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
