Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Richard M. Souza, 63, died Monday, March 19, 2012 in the Tufts Medical Center, Boston. He was the husband of Lori J. (Stuart) Souza.
Born in Gloucester on October 29, 1948, he was the son of the late Manuel P. and Mary (Nickerson) Souza. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Saint Colette’s School of Cape Cod.
He was a lifelong employee at Gorton's of Gloucester until becoming disabled from a fall on the ice that permanently injured his shoulder. He enjoyed watching television especially, Pawn Stars, Top Chef, cooking shows, news, weather channel and the Phantom Gourmet. He enjoyed walking about town daily, going to the store to buy the Gloucester Daily Times & Boston Herald. He loved music, especially Elvis and the Beatles. He also loved to spent time with his family and enjoyed life and laughing telling stories of the good old days. He was a life member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks #892, as was his father, Manny.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Candace Souza, Michele Souza Tarr and her husband, Jason and Janet E. Souza; former spouse, Brenda Mitchell Souza; stepchildren, Timmy Camille, John Jerome and Dena Gauthier; thirteen grandchildren, Ariel, Jason Jr., Jordan, Danny, Alexis, Johnna, Meaka, Maylee, John, Timmy III, Hunter, Brody and Brayden; his brother Terry W. Souza; an aunt, Laura Genawese; three sisters-in-law, Carol Rose, Catherine B. Stuart & Anita Pacheco; several nieces, nephews, cousins, many dear friends all of whom he adored and five cats. He was also predeceased by his step-mother, Beatrice M. Souza, a brother David P. Souza and his grandfather, Manuel P Souza, Sr. aka "Joe Rivers" an early 1900's boxer.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 – 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930 or to The ARC, 1660 L St., NW, Suite 301, Washington, DC 20036.
