Obituary

Maurice "Mo" Fitzgerald,of Canton, died Tuesday morning, March 13, 2012 after a lengthy illness. He was 73 years old.

A longtime Canton resident he was born in the Dorchester section of Boston to the late Michael and Hanora M. (Riordan) Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald was raised and educated in Belmont, graduating from Belmont High School where he had been a member of the football team. He then went on to attain his B.S. in Chemistry from Harvard University in Cambridge During his time at Harvard he had been member of their Boxing Team. Mr. Fitzgerald also attained two Masters Degrees from Northeastern University in Boston; one in Chemistry and the other in business.

Mr. Fitzgerald had served in the Army Medical Corps during the Vietnam Era.

He began work at Polaroid in both their Cambridge and Waltham Laboratories and retired after 37 years with the company as a Senior Scientist. He held over 50 United States Patends in the chemical processing of color photography. He was a member of the Polaroid Retirees Club.

Holding his private Pilots license, Mr. Fitzgerald had a passion for private aviation. Being a member of the E.A.A. and had been currently building his own Kit Fox Airplane.

He was an avid hunter, regularly hunting with a special group of friends. He loved to follow and discuss politics and enjoyed skiing with his family.

Mr. Fitzgerald is survived by his beloved wife, Trudy A. Fitzgerald, his daughter, Kerry Fitzgerald of TX, his sons, Sean Fitzgerald of Thailand and Maurice Fitzgerald, 2nd, and his wife, Tricia of CA, his stepsons, Al Lambiase and his wife, Jennifer of Weymouth, Joseph Lambiase and his wife, Cheryl of Rockland and Paul Lambiase and his fiance, Dawn Maria of Abington, his sisters, Gerladine Mack and her husband, Dr. Richard of Byfield and Ellen Fitzgerald of Newburyport, his grandchildren, Kenny and Sarah Fitzgerald and his step grandchildren, Brittni, John, Kyle and Anna Lambiase. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews and extended family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of Mo's life at the Roache - Pushard Family Home for Funerals, 210 Sherman Street, Canton, on Saturday at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Gerard Church, Canton at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Interment with Honors will be held at the Canton Corner Cemetery.
