Winston Luke, 71, of Tifton died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Danny Ray will officiate with burial to follow in Saint Luke Cemetery in Alapaha. Randy Swails, Tom McGrady, Wayne Crosby, Bobby Gibbs, Vince Gilliard and Shane Massey will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Wednesday night bowling league at Tift County Lanes. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The family will be at 87 Lastinger Road, Tifton, GA 31794.
Mr. Luke was born on May 27, 1940 in Berrien County and was the son of Pearlie Luke and Rosia Lee Jowers Luke, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Sue Luke Webb; and two sisters, Ethell Dean and Lois Swails. He was a retired truck driver; an avid bowler and was a member of the United States Bowling Congress. He was also an avid fisherman and loved old country music and loved his Jack Russell terrier, Sassy.
Mr. Luke is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Roy Lee and Tammy Luke and Wesley and Mia Luke, all of Tifton; one brother, Glenwood “Buddy” Luke of Nashville; three sisters, Alstine “Sis” Swails of Enigma, Bobbie McGrady of Alapaha and Barbara Rose of Tifton; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
