NEW BEDFORD – Alice (Germano) Soares , 88, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012. She was the wife of the late Lionel A. Soares (N.B.P.D.).
A lifelong New Bedford resident, Mrs. Soares was the daughter of the late Frances (Amaral) and Antone L. Germano. She grew up a proud member of the Germano family that resided on Orchard St. Alice was predeceased by all eight siblings ( Mary, Sylvina, Theresa, Antone, Evelyn, Germaine , Irene and William ).
Alice was educated in the New Bedford Public Schools. During the early 1940s, she was an inspector at Goodyear. In later years, she worked at Sunnyside Bakery and Newport Creamery. Prior to retirement, she was a dress factory supervisor.
In years past, Alice and her husband enjoyed wintering in North Fort Myers, FL. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Alice loved family; she often stated that the best presents she ever received were her grandchildren.
Mrs. Soares is survived by her son, Glenn and his wife, Linda of Belfast, ME and her daughter, Carol Rodrigues and her husband, Louis of Fairhaven; her grandchildren, Bryan Soares and his wife, Rebecca, Jennie Soares, and Kevin Soares, all of Maine, and Kristina Rodrigues of Fairhaven. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 24 at 10AM at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St.,with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth, at 11:15AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday, 5-8PM. Relatives and friends are invited.
