Obituary

Leo John Haczynski 81 formerly of Tache St. in Woonsocket died Sunday at Briar Cliff Manor in Johnston. He was the son of the late Wladyslaw and Bronislawa (Zych) Haczynski. Mr. Haczynski was a Navy Veteran of WWII and and the Korean War.
Mr. Haczynski was a Professor of Slavic History. He taught at Power Memorial Academy in Manhattan, NY for two years, Iona College in New Rochelle, NY for ten years, St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY for one year, Assumption College in Worcester, MA for one yr, and the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada for sixteen years. Mr. Haczynski graduated from the Woonsocket Public School system, received a BS from URI, and a MA and PHD for Fordham University in NY. He was a Smith-Mundt Exchange Scholar to Poland for one year and a Kosciuszko Foundation Scholar for a year. He held the student assistantship for the Russian Institute of Fordham University for two years. Mr. Haczynski was also in charge of teacher placemant for the Archdiocese of NY. for two years. He published many articles and book reviews.

He is survived by a sister Helena Kukla of Phoenix, AZ, two nieces Priscilla Boyd of Milford CT, and Christine Dickins of AZ, and several grand nieces and grand nephews. He was also the brother of the late Stanislaw, Michael, Anthony, Edward, and Thomas, Walter and Irene Haczynski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:00 in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to the UPEI Scholarship Fund, Advancement Services, 550 University Ave., Charlottetown, PEI C1A4P3 Canada, would be appreciated.
