Shirl was an elegant, charming, funny, joyous lady and a wonderful human being. It was my privilege and honor to get to know her better these last few years and I will forever be grateful for that opportunity. My sincere condolences to the Bliss/Emery families. You have lost the pearl of great price. May she be an example to us all of how to live a full and generous life.

My mom and I had the pleasure to spend some quality time w/ Rick and his mom Shirley at Foxwoods several years ago. It was so memorable for both of us: Shirley made it that way for all of us. That was who she was. Just being in her presence made you feel better about yourself. My mom still reflects on that experience to this day. Thanks to both Shirley and her kind and caring son Rick. I did not say what I wanted to say when I came to the wake last evening. I wanted to tell Shirley's family how much she loved all of you , how proud she was of each of you. I loved her as a friend who still believed in sending cards and we exchanged notes for years. While working in Falmouth, I was always on the lookout for her delicious cookies which she placed on her desk, not for very long, however, as we all appreciated her baking skills. I believe I bought whatever she contributed to bake sales before she got out of her car and into the building. Shirley was always upbeat, friendly and knowledgeable about everything that went on in the building, but never gossiped. I will miss her, she brought much happiness and joy to all of us.
