On June 21, 2015 I called Mary on the phone and we talked for two hours. I hadn't seen or spoken to her in about 35 years. She and Conrad were friends of my parents but I always really liked Mary so much and used to love to talk to her when she was at my parent's house in Norwood. I happened to google: Mary and Conrad Palsic online. Conrad's obituary came up. I was frozen in silence. I found Mary's landline on the internet. We spoke, as I said, for two hours that Father's Day. We talked about old times and I filled her in on new stuff. We talked about Conrad. I was so saddened to know Mary was terminal with lung cancer. I asked if she had any relatives that visit and she said her sister comes by twice a week. I had a hard time saying goodbye. I told her I would call her back in about a month and see how she was doing. I told Mary I would pray for her and she said, "Thank you." When she said, "Bye, Carla" to me at the end of the call it sounded like she knew we would never speak to each other again. I planned to call her soon but I checked for her name online tonight so hoping I wouldn't find her name and then I did. So, I'm sitting here crying. I'm so sorry for your loss. She was a wonderful, funny, quick witted, intelligent woman. I wish I had stayed in touch all these years. I'm glad she knew I was thinking of her to find her online just three days before she left this earth. Rest in peace, Mary.
