I want to pass along my deepest sympathies on your loss. No words could begin to describe the shock and sorrow I felt when I got the news about Howard yesterday. My friendship though brief was a warm friendship forged through golf, a game he absolutely enjoyed. I was lucky enough to play with him in our league at Willowdale many times along with a tournament we played together in just a few weeks ago. I will never forget the putt he made during that tournament. I could have tried that putt a thousand times and never made it but Howard just walked right up and made it. The joy he felt on making that was special to share and I won't forget that moment ever. He's also the only person in the league that always acknowledged all my league emails. I could always count on him to send me his thoughts as well as letting me know what a great job I was doing as president of the league. His support and kind words meant a lot to me. There is a line from the movie "The Legend of Bagger Vance" where Bagger (Will Smith) tells Junah (Matt Damon), "It's a game that can't be won, only played. " That game goes far beyond the game of golf and it's one Howard played very well. I will miss him a lot! I put his initials on my ball last night and shot my lowest score of the season as well as winning both closest to the pin holes. I felt him walking along next to me, enjoying every minute of it!! My thoughts and prayers, as well as those of the entire Monday Night Golf League are with you all and as long as we keep Howard in our hearts, he's not really gone at all.

“Friends of Friends”—the phrase coined by Howard to describe good people meeting the friends of other good people. Howard and Becky, you were our first “Friends of Friends” and the good times we have shared now suddenly seem so much more special. Howard’s friendliness, warmth, generosity, hugs, laughter and so much more will be sorely missed but never ever forgotten in our household. There are certain things in life that only become clear in hindsight and our friendship with Howard falls into that category. It's been over a week now and it certainly hasn't sunk in yet, don't know that it ever will. We will miss your presence at every get together and party. We will miss your jokes, your laughter and your quirky ways! I loved growing up in our neighborhood with a big group of kids (and then a group of parents that were more like big kids) and you were a part of that. I loved that my best friends parents were also my parents best friends. After a few drinks the kids all knew "it was gonna be one of those nights". We had countless good memories on Cavan Crossing and your absence does not come easily. Thanks for all the great times Howard, we love you! You were one of a kind.
