When Maria was born in 1964, she made me very happy because now I finally had a cousin on my dad's side who was coming back to live in our extended family 2nd and 3rd floor apartments of a 3 story North End building. As she got a little older, I now had someone to play with after school. Years later, after she had moved to Firenze to pursue her teaching career, we had a chance to be with her as both our gracious host and tour guide for us during our honeymoon. She showed us around her city, including all the non-tourist spots. - may favorite was the small town of Fiesole. Living in Italy, we only saw her periodically when she would come back here with Alberto, her son, and we used that time to catch up and have the next generation of kids get to know each other. With her loss, there is now a big void in our small family of Crognale grand kids.
