My Sincere Sympathies to Josephine and the other members of Bill's family. I saw Bill on his last visit to the Ted Williams Museum and enjoyed talking not only baseball, but about he & my cousin Richard's days at Medford HS.The interview he did with Rich Herrera from the Tampa Bay Rays had us rolling when he talked about guys who can only go 6 innings these days-I finished what I started Bill said-no set up guy,no reliever, just me and the catcher. He captivated everyone that day.I am richer for having known him.May God heal your hearts.Sincerely,Julie

Josephine,my heartfelt condolences to you and your family.I always had/have wonderful memories of Bill from the very first time I met him at MHS and throughout all these years. He was "down to earth" and very personal whenever we met.He was always "top shelf" and comfortable to converse with.He never let his life as a professional baseball player get in the way of dealing with people.I am sorry to be in Naples Fl and just unable to attend his service.Lot's of hugs,Joe Vecchio

To Josephine and the entire Monbouquette family. I was shocked to hear of Billy s passing. I know you were all so proud of his accomplishments but even more for being just a great person. When I was pitching at the college level, Billy took a liking to me and was working with me on my mechanics. Not too long ago I spent a couple of hours at their home in Medford. Just talking baseball. What stories. You and Billy welcomed me with open arms. All I can say is what wonderful people. So many people will miss him for sure including myself. RIP Dave Caiazzo

I sat in my chair earlier in the day and read Bill's obituary, and couldn't hold back the tears ! He was a great pitcher with many excellent #s and also I am happy he stood up for Pumpkin Greene when the Sox signed him ! I know he lasted

Bill I did not know of the fine moment when you struck a blow for race relations by defending your teammate Pumpsie Green. That is a remarkable feat for a man of only 21. It takes individual acts of courage and civility to realize Dr. King' dream of equality for all. More than any feat accomplished by yourself on the field of play your greatest fielding play was one of FairPlay and Justice for all. You are a Hall Of Famer for peace! The Lord is smiling because of your life. Rest in Peace.

As a devoted Red Sox fan meeting Mombo was a thrill. What a year we had spent listening on the radio and tv when the games aired and we weren't working. When I met Mombo years later, I had to tell him I had lived in Medford. He asked where did I live, in Fulton Heights, without hesitation, he said "oh I lived closer to the Somerville line! I replied oh I came from the wrong side? Obviously that conversation was in good humor. We all had to come from somewhere....Combo and Lonborg were the only two I ever wanted to meet, memories are so grand...God Bless you all....Gail Reardon Lafayette

To All of Mr. Monbouquette's Family/Relatives: I pray that you will find comfort and strength in the memories Mr. Monbouquette created with each of you. My father and uncle were friends of Mr. Monbouquette's and I was an acquaintance of his through their relationship. Growing up I was always a bit reluctant to meet professional ball players or celebrities because I felt in awe of them. I likened ball players to extremely high class citizens who wanted nothing to do with the average person. That all changed when I met Mr. Monbouquette. He showed me exactly how high class he was because of his willingness to share his talents and life with the average person (me). On one visit to Colorado, when I was about 17 or 18, he contacted me and asked me to accompany him to dinner so he wouldn't eat alone. I was afraid to go at first because I felt like I had nothing to offer in the way of conversation but I knew we each had baseball in common. By the end of our meal, Mr. Monbouquette had made me feel so welcomed and relaxed because of his passion for the game of baseball. It is a memory that stays with me to this day because I was a kid having a meal with a professional baseball player, and I figured he would have been bored and left halfway through the meal, yet he talked to me as if I were a teammate of his and we were just sitting on the bench talking. I'll never forget that day. A few years later we would meet again; this time at the Albany-Colonie Yankee Stadium where he took time out of his schedule to watch me throw a bullpen session and provide me with advice and direction on my delivery and technique. Mr. Monbouquette's instruction was very helpful to me during my college career. I am grateful for the moments I was able to spend with Mr. Monbouquette. He was a terrific baseball player and an even finer person. My heartfelt condolences and prayers will be with Mrs. Josephine (Ritchie) Monbouquette and all of his loved ones.

Dear Josie...our sincere condolences to you and all family members. A true professional as a ballplayer and moreso as a person. We have many remembrances of time spent with Bill, he was a mentor who was very giving of himself. I can never recall him saying no to any request made of him, not only by us but by ballplayers and customers of ours. He will be missed!

Cousin Josephine, Im sorry for your loss. I will never forget the first time meeting Bill and saying to my parents "who is he?" I then learned who he was and still have the signed ball he gave me that night and its almost 17years later. I will never part with it because he is what truly got me into loving baseball more.He was simple amazing to be around. The stories he told us kids about his playing days to his current coaching days. I still remember him coming to a Tampa Bay Rays/ Red Sox game I was lucky enough to see. My grandmother made sure we both knew the other was there at the game and we just sat down and talked about the game and how funny it was that until about 4 hrs before game time we didnt know we would both be at the same game. He will forever be missed in our family and he always lit up a room. Sending prayers and love your way from the Moschella/Sabella/Mello families near and far.
