I would like to express my condolences. My heart goes out to your family during this difficult loss. As Krystle's psychology teacher at Mass Bay Community College, I only had the privilege to have her as student for a few months in fall of 2003. Even ten years later, when I read her name as one of the victims of this senseless bombing, I immediately remembered her as one of the most dedicated students I ever had. She was a young woman that left only positive memories. I'm at a loss for words that could possibly comfort you and therefore I will end this message with words of the Scottish poet Thomas Campbell: To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.

My condolences go out to the family of Krystle. I met Krystle in high school and when I think back to our interactions, what everyone says about her is true. She always had a smile on her face and she was very friendly. May she rest in peace and may she watch over you all both now and forever. God now has an amazing angel with him.

Monday was my 24th run of the Boston Marathon. I wrote this for all of our spectators, but especially Kristle bacause she gave us her love and support for so many years. Last year I wrote a letter via the Globe thanking the spectators for sustaining the runners through the oppressive heat of the day. This year they took a bullet for us. Every year beautiful, upbeat, wonderful people like Krystle Campbell, literally scream their support for us runners for hours after the leaders have passed. They help us push through our pain on the hills and they somehow help heal our wobbly quads and calfs on those last 600 yards down Boylston Street. This year it’s different. This year some of them and their families and friends will need all of us to help them get their feet back beneath them. This year the world could see the kind of heroes that those fans are. They are people that will run towards the smoke and fire. They are named and unnamed people who ripped barricades to clear a path for first responders, improvised tourniquets, stemmed bleeding and saved countless lives. They are the doctors and nurses who volunteer year after year to take care of us at the finish line; and police, fire, national guard and volunteers who take care of us for the whole 26 miles, and jumped in when needed at the first instant. As runners we can only promise to be there for you in whatever you need. We will continue to raise money for you. We will give our blood for you. We will get up at 5:00 on the darkest and coldest winter morning and train for you. We will run for you next year. God bless Kristle and her family and know how much we love her and will miss her for years to come. Bill Passman Lexington

, Ma,
An Irish Prayer from one grieving Mother to another: Death is nothing at all, it does not count. She has only slipped away into the next room. Everything remains as it was The old life that you lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever you were to each other, that you are still. Call her by the old familiar name. Speak of her in the easy way which you always used. Put no sorrow in your tone. Laugh as you always laughed at the little jokes that you enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of her, pray for her. Let her name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort. Life means all that it ever meant. it is the same as it ever was. There is unbroken continuity. Why should she be out of mind because she is out of sight? She is but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well, nothing is hurt, nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How you shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when you meet again. God be with you all!

Your pain and sorrow was so profoundly evident, and for this, I pray to God for peace and comfort for you. My heart breaks for this beautiful young lady who was taken far too young by senseless brutality. I saw her mother Patty on tv and as she spoke I cried. I have 3 small children aged 1,4 and 5 and the thought of something happening to them sends shivers through me. As a mother I cannot put into words how affected I was by hearing Krystals mom speak. I wanted to reach through the screen and give her a big hug, hold her and I'm praying for God to ease her pain. I lost my mom way too young in life. She had a BIG heart and Patty reminds me of my own mom. You can clearly see that this amazing lady who raised a beautiful, smart girl is a loving, down to earth lady who was very close with her little girl. I say little girl because a daughter is always your little girl. Patty please stay strong and know that millions of people are behind you, holding you up along with your daughter. You are truly in our hearts and prayers. In the coming days there will be times where you'll wonder how you can go on. Take a deep breath and just breath. Hug your son and husband and lean on one another for support. Together you'll get through this. Rest in peace dear Krystal and please wrap your angel wings around your family and heal the pain they feel so they are left with the happy memories you gave them. With love and empathy, Jodie Lapointe

Mr. & Mrs. Campbell and Family, First, my deepest condolences for the loss of your beloved Krystle. I cannot imagine the horror and devastation you must be enduring at this time. It is a tragedy magnified by both the unthinkable circumstances that caused it and the untimely passing of such a loving and beautiful person. My wife Julie and I had the great fortune to get to know Krystle while we worked together at ScupperJacks restaurant in Acton for several years while she was in college. She was a remarkable person, always upbeat, with a radiant smile and infectiously positive attitude. Like everyone who knew her, we remain in shock over the news of her passing. Over the past week you have probably been inundated with notes and stories from those who knew Krystle and wanted to pass along part of her legacy. If you would be willing to indulge one more, I would like to share with you a lasting memory I have of her, one that will always remain with me. About ten years ago, we were working at the restaurant together on a typical slow Tuesday night. About an hour into the shift, a gentleman was seated at a table and I nearly went into shock. The man was the splitting image of Al Filipov, a former regular and personal friend who was one of the victims of the 9/11 tragedy that had occurred a few years earlier. After confirming that it was indeed someone else, I retreated to one of the bus station to regain my composure. It wasn’t just the sight of seeing someone who looked so much like Al, it was more about the release of some suppressed emotions that must have been bottled up for the last couple years. So much anger, confusion, but mostly concern for my children who now would have to exist in a new world order that might now include living in fear of the next terrorist attack. Krystle came into the bus station and immediately sensed that something was wrong. She asked if I was OK and if I wanted to talk about it. I told her it was a long story and didn’t want to burden her. Truth be told, I was being slightly condescending, feeling that someone so young wouldn’t really be able to offer any tangible advice or understanding. But she was persistent and eventually I told her what was going on and how I was having trouble coping with this unwelcome reality. She listened intently as I went over some of these concerns, then offered some assurances that I will never forget. She said that people her age (she was only a few years older than my eldest son) were not living in fear, quite the contrary. While 9/11 was a shock, she said she and her friends weren’t letting it affect the way they went about their business and assured my children would feel the same way. She asked about Al and what I thought he would want me to do; continue to grieve and worry, or show the terrorists that no matter what they do they cannot break our spirit. Hearing these remarkable words from someone so young and full of hope gave me new inspiration that allowed me to have a rejuvenated attitude going forward that continues to this day. Hearing the news about Krystle this week rekindled memories of that night, and I suppose there is some irony that it was her own words that have helped me cope with the situation. While there remains anger and sorrow at the loss of this beautiful young woman, there is no fear of a world that may be becoming too unsafe for those I care for. I will continue to respect and live by those words in her memory and pass them on to those who may take comfort in them. God bless, to Krystle and all those who care for her.

As a mother myself, my heart breaks for your loss of Krystle, which occurred in such a savage way in the Boston bombing. Please know that there are thousands, if not millions, of us who share your disbelief and outrage and will not forget your daughter. Krystle will always watch over you and be with you. You will know her continued presence in your lives. My prayers go out for you all.
