Obituary

Louis N. Avitabile, Jr. age 57 of Bridgewater, died Tuesday May 28, 2013 at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was the loving and devoted husband of Ann Ahearn Avitabile for 31 years. Louie was born in South Boston and raised in Hanover a son of Louis N. Avitabile, Sr. of Hanover and the late Mary M. (Sullivan) Avitabile. He had resided in Bridgewater for the past ten years and previously lived in Middleboro for many years.

A 1975 graduate of Hanover High School, Louie also earned his BS in Criminal Justice from Western New England College in 2001. He graduated Magna cum Laude while working and helping raise his three sons.

Louie retired from the Middleboro Police Department as a sergeant after 22 years of service to the town. Previously he had been an officer with the Boston University Campus Police. Following his retirement, Louie was housing coordinator with Old Colony Elder Services in Brockton.

Louie’s true joy in his life was his family. When his sons were younger he coached them in the youth football program of MMC and CYO basketball and volunteered for various school events. With his wife Ann he had been a volunteer with the Beyond Loving program at Sacred Heart Church in Middleboro. In his free time, Lou enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and cooking for large family gatherings. He will be remembered as a kind and compassionate man, quietly giving of himself and always ready to help someone in need without expecting anything in return.

In addition to his wife and father, Louie leaves his three sons Patrick J. Avitabile of Taunton, Kevin L. Avitabile of Bridgewater and James M. Avitabile of Taunton and two grandsons Jasiah McCormack and Tyler Avitabile. He was the brother of John of Brockton, Mark of Holbrook, Paul of Pembroke and Steven of Hanover and also leaves his mother-in-law Pearl E. Ahearn of Bridgewater and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes Church 433 West St., Brockton on Monday June 3 at 11 am. Burial at a later date. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Louie’s name to Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368 or to The Caregivers Program at Old Colony Elder Services, 144 Main St., Brockton, MA 02301.
