Dear Ditty, It was of great sadness that I learned yesterday of Dick's death. Though I never had the pleasure of being a "friend", I have always thought highly of him as a person. It was a joy to be Michael's first grade teacher and an added joy to have you both as wonderful parents offering great support to me. Maybe even greater than that was Dick being Santa. When Meg was nursery age we went to the Chandler Christmas celebration where Meg had a wonderful conversation with Dick. Being so young I was concerned what to tell her when she would see other "Santas" at malls. But there was no problem when Meg explained to me that they were only helpers because she had talked to the REAL Santa. That memory has always been one of my favorite childhood experiences for Meg. Meg had 4 joyous visits with Dick and had her picture taken with him. Those pictures are always on display in our home during the holidays each year, as they are right now. I treasure them. My heart goes out to you and your family for your loss. What a wonderful life you have had together for so many years. Keep those memories close in the challenging days ahead, they will be a huge comfort. With hugs and affection, Betsy
