Dear Family, Today, March 24th, I kept my appointment at Holy Family Hospital and was attended by Doctor Flynn, who informed me of Doctor Shetty's untimely accident. I was literally in a state of shock and disbelief at the news. I can fully empathize with you as my dear wife, Rachel, was taken from me after 45 years of happy marriage when she fell and could not recover from injuries to her head in 2007. Doctor Shetty was a warm, caring, compassionate healer, whom I will miss for his unhurried attention in my appointments and the procedure he performed with consummate skill which enables me to be alive today. I sincerely regret your family's loss of this wonderful man. He made the quality of my life improve beyond measure, as I am sure he did for all those who ever had the privilege to be his patient, friend, acquaintence or family member. Love, Francis

I was truly devastaed to hear of the passing of Dr. "Sam" Shetty. I met Dr. Shetty 17 years ago when he started NERTA and I was his account manager. We had maintained our business relationship and friendship over the years and always stayed in touch. He was truly an amazing person and a doctor beyond compare. To say he will be missed is truly an understatement! May you rest in peace Sam. God bless you, Liddy.

To Sam's family, heartfelt condolences. Your personal loss of such a wonderful man must be immense. Sam was not only a brilliant physician, he had the gift to heal twice....through his skill and through his profound empathy and compassion for human beings. I'm not sure which healed patients most. I had the privilege of knowing him professionally, and worked with many of his patients through the years who just adored him. Even when he couldn't heal the body, he would gently and compassionately help heal the soul. A consummate professional, always supportive of colleagues and so well respected. A profound loss for all.

My deepest condolences to your family at this time of sorrow. Words can not express what a wonderful man Dr. Shetty was. It is such a shock to hear of his untimely passing. I consider myself blessed to have worked under him at Holy Family. He was very patient with me when I was a new grad and when I was training to be a dosimetrist. He showed me the same care and compassion that he showed his patients, family members, and all staff alike. He may be gone in body, but his legacy will live on by the many people he has touched.

I've worked with Dr. Shetty for twenty years. I feel a tremendous loss and am thinking of his family. He had so many wonderful qualities; his care and compassion, his warm smile, his thirst for new technology and his great sense of humor. I remember numerous times when he would casually pass by my desk and drop a paper with a joke or funny story, giggling as he walked away. I will miss him greatly, my sincere condolences.

Dear Mrs. Shetty and family, My sincere sympathy on the loss of your beloved husband. Dr. Shetty took care of me 14 years ago after my diagnosis of breast cancer. He was taking care of me once again at Holy Family after my diagnosis in 12/10 that the breast cancer had reappeared, this time in my bones and bone marrow. What a compassionate gentleman and learned doctor he was! He assured me that I would be dusting off my dancing shoes and dancing away with my favorite guy after he had completed his radiation treatments with me. I miss him already. He will always be of blessed memory, and I'm honored to have known him and been in his medical care. I saw him most recently on Monday 2/7/11. My heartfelt condolences to the entire Shetty family. His sudden loss to everyone is a shock. I wish you courage and strength in the days ahead. Most sincerely, Bonita (Bonnie) Coltin

Glancing through the obituaries in the Boston Globe, I could not believe what I was reading. A switch was flipped, a life snuffed out. A true gentleman had passed on. How tenuous is our sojourn on this planet. Yet some individuals do make a difference in the lives of many, and Santosh was such a one. His was a life well lived and celebrated. Devoted physician, family man, sportsman and friend. No longer will we see Santosh's smiling face at IMANE, FORUM, Mass. Medical and numerous other functions. No longer will we share a scotch or two and trade humerous stories at family and community events. No longer can we look forward to our next meeting with Santosh, or perhaps we can? Farewell, dear friend. Till we meet again, I'll say Adieu, and thanks for the memories. Victor Heartfelt condolences to dear Suji, Sajini, Shawn and the whole family, at the devastating news of the sudden passing of Santosh. I cannot even begin to comprehend the desolation you feel! May God grant Santosh eternal rest in His arms, and give you strength to bear your loss. Santosh was a true gentleman in every sense of the word - caring, loving, devoted, genuinely humble, generous and always smiling. He gave his all to his family, patients, friends and community. The world is a sadder place without him. In deep sorrow, Janine

Sam, I always felt it was an honor to work with you. You were so far ahead of the times, convincing me, a urologist, that Brachytherapy was the way to go in treating prostate cancer. We swam against the tide,my friend, and I thought of you when the European Urology Association's newsletter headlined: "Brachytherapy is the Standard of Care for Prostate Cancer". You treated my patents like your own, kindly taught me radiotherapy, and treated all of us with respect, kindness and grace. I will miss you, as will all your grateful patients. Well done, faithful and generous servant! I am humbled by having known you and being your friend. Charles R. Burke, MD, FACS

I am personally stunned by the news of the passing of "Sam" Shetty, as he was known to most of his colleagues at Holy Family Hospital, and these same feelings have been reflected by others in all my conversations with the other docs and staff at HFH. I worked with Sam all the time, sometimes seeing him two or three times a week over the last 15 years. He was always a very knowledgeable physician, even in areas only peripherally related to his field. In addition, he brought a practical common sense and touch of humor to his work which was greatly appreciated by his colleagues and I'm sure his patients as well. Sam brought state-of-the art cancer treatment to our community hospital; countless Merrimack Valley patients have benefitted from the high-quality care provided by Sam and his team, the equal of that provided in tertiary-care hospitals. In fact, many patients who received most of their care "downtown" would come to Sam and his colleagues for radiation therapy. Sam was a really good doc, colleague and friend. We will all miss him enormously. If I or any member of my family had needed radiation oncology services, I would have unhesitatingly placed my/their care in Sam's hands. I regret (this is not a strong enough word) that I will no longer have that option. Rest in peace, Sam. Your job was done well. Don Ross, MD, Chief Pathologist, Holy Family Hospital
