I remember stopping in to his ACE Hardware store as a little kid and getting all kinds of goodies. I still have the green and black Old Timer pocket knife, still in great shape too, that he gave me when Granny passed years ago, and I still use it today. It had a special meaning then, and even more so now. He would have given you the shirt off of his back, and all the money in his pocket if he knew that you needed it. He is one of the strongest, and most courageous, people that I have ever known. Thank you for your love and your inspiration that will always carry on!

Uncle Charles had the amazing ability to make you feel as though you were the only person in the room, and that his world was made brighter just by you being there. He was a great listener and storyteller, and even though we were often apart, the miles always fell away with that first greeting and hug. My life was made brighter by the way he lived and loved, and his light will not dim with his passing. With love to Aunt Janice and Allen and Richard and their families.

If Webster's had a picture beside the phrase "people person" it would be of Charles. I loved shopping wherever he worked and his hardware store was the best. Most of all throughout his courageous fight he still spent considerable time in caring for others. He will be dearly missed but his legacy will endure. My prayers are with all the family and with God's help and your closeness you will get through this difficult time.

Dear Janice and family, My sincere sympathy and prayers are with you during this sad time. Charles was truly a fine man, and teen-age boy. I remember how sweet and kind he was to everyone even during our high school years, I can never remember Charles being unkind to anyone, and he ranks very high on my list as being one of the nicest men I've ever known. I know he will be missed by many. God bless you always. Sincerely, Sandra

Mr. Charles meant so much to the Hobby family. Charles and Janice were role models to Redding and Martha early in their relationship and marriage. Spending Christmas Eve with Charles and Janice eating chili and peanut butter sandwiches is a tradition that follows are family even today. Charles and Janice's love for each other and family was something to aspire too. The Hobby daughters were always embraced by Mr. Charles when we came back to Ashburn, he welcomed us with open arms every time we walked into Ace hardware and for military kids living all over the world he was part of our roots and gave us a friendly face to come home too. We love you Mr. Charles and are sad to lose you but so happy to know you are celebrating your homecoming in heaven today. Love, Anna Hobby, Rachel Mendoza, Rebecca Blount, and Martha Hobby

I've read so many wonderful memories and kind words and every single one brings an even warmer memory and feeling to me. Pepa (as he will always be to me) was exceptionally special, so much so that I don't know that I could do it justice with words. He and Mema welcomed me with open arms into their family at a time when I needed it most (and didn't even realize it). I just know that for everyone who loved him, their world will be very different without him. My heart is heavy and my prayers are for healing in the coming days.

Dear Adair Family: I will miss seeing Charles walking and I will be thinking of all the good things he has done for this community. I saw Charles at Church, at Hobby's, and at Ace Hardware. At all of these places I remember Charles being a happy, pleasant person to talk with. Charles was one of my favorite people and I know he is happy now because he is in Heaven with other Angels, walking the Streets of Gold, and praising the Lord. I Love all of you. Shirley Brock
