Obituary

WEBSTER - Joseph A. Furey, Jr., 79, of 20 Stefaniak Avenue, died Tuesday, May 10, in Saint Vincent Hospital, Worcester. His first wife, Lois E. (Bruce) Furey, died in 1992. His second wife, Dorothy (Capozzo) Furey died in 2003.

He leaves 2 sons, Joseph A. Furey, III of Webster and Gregory A. and his wife Marguerite Furey of Dudley; 3 daughters, Michelle M. and her husband James Bilis of Dudley, Lynn M. and her husband John Helferich of Chester, New Jersey, and Karen J. Furey of Dracut; 2 sisters, Ellen Katawicz of Three Rivers and Ruth Roberts of Brimfield; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his son David B. Furey and his daughter Cheryl A. Furey.

He was born in Palmer, son of Joseph A. Furey, Sr., and Ellen A. (Hall) Furey. He moved to Webster in 1972. He graduated from Palmer High School in the class of 1943, and later graduated from Vesper George School of Art in Boston.

Mr. Furey was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

He founded and operated Atlas Screen Process Company in Webster in 1961, and retired in 1991.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 13, in Mount Zion Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 12:45 to 1:45 Friday afternoon at Scanlon Funeral Service, East Main Street.
