Obituary

Maurice A. “Monsieur” Carignan, 77, of Manchester, died December 30, 2012 at Catholic Medical Center after a sudden illness.
He was born in Manchester on April 19, 1935 to Herve and Rose-Alba (Fortin) Carignan. He was a graduate of St. Anthony High School and St. Anselm College and was a lifelong resident of Manchester.
He served in the New Hampshire Army National Guard for 23 years.
Maurice was a language teacher at Manchester West High School for 38 years. He was a member of the National Education Association, the New Hampshire Education Association and the Manchester Education Association.
He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5260 and the American Legion. He was a communicant of St. Anthony Church where he served as a cantor and soloist for many years.
The family includes his wife of 50 years, Denise (Cote) Carignan of Manchester; three children, Marc Carignan and his partner, Peter Filorio, of Reno, NV, Paul Carignan and his wife, Heather, of Dover, NH and Nicole Carignan and her husband, David Raphael, of Essex, VT; two grandchildren, Jason and Vanessa Carignan; a sister in law, Jeannine Cote of Manchester; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, January 4, 2013 at St. Anthony Church, 172 Belmont St., Manchester. Burial at a later date will be at St. Augustin Cemetery in Manchester.
