Obituary

Frank W. Hood, 81, of Abbeville, Georgia, died Saturday, September 9, 2006 at River Willows Nursing Home in Abbeville.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Monday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Hood was born June 7, 1925, in Dublin, Georgia to the late Daniel Webster and Ethel Foster Hood. He lived most of his life in Ben Hill and Wilcox counties. Mr. Hood was a retired Staff Sergeant and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked as a mechanic at Fitzgerald Ford and was a member of American Legion Post 99. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ben Hill County.

Survivors include his wife: Iona J. Hood of Abbeville; daughter and son-in-law: Denise & Mike Silcox of Cordele; three sons and a daughter-in-law: David & Terrie Hood, Frank Daniel Hood and Eddie Hood, all of Canton; step-children: Melvin Keith & Becky Rogers of Abbeville, Patricia Ann & Sam Cox of Fitzgerald, and Annette & Lonnie Smith of Douglas; step-son-in-law: Henry Mitchell Mattair of Abbeville; four sisters: Lucy Spicer of Jacksonville, FL, Ruth McLeod of Osierfield, Wylene Bryant of Byron, and Jeanelle Funck of Tacoma, Washington; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Florice Evelyn Hood; a step-daughter: Mary A. Mattair; and two brothers: Jim and William and one sister Mildred Mann..
