Dot Pickard, 81, of Byron (formerly of Fitzgerald), died Saturday, August 31, 2013, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, September 3, 2013, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Winford officiating. Fran Goff Barnette will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9-10:30 Tuesday morning at the funeral home.
Mrs. Pickard was born October 7, 1931, in Tift County, Georgia to the late Clarence W. & Maude Vaughn Griffin. She was a homemaker and lived the greater part of her life in Fitzgerald, having moved to Byron in 2011. She loved flowers and gardening as well as sewing. Mrs. Pickard was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan and “Big Mama” was frequently spotted at area ball fields supporting her grandchildren in their sports. She attended Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins and loved reading her Bible.
She is survived by her children: Billy Pickard of Cebu, Philippines, Mike Pickard of Fitzgerald, and Dianne & Ronnie Howell of Byron; six grandchildren: Brant & Heather Pickard, Brittney Pickard, Gordon Pickard, Nora Pickard, Blake & Candice Howell, and Kyle & Anna Howell; seven great-grandchildren: Maddie Pickard, Ella Howell, Jackson Howell, Jacob Howell, Avery Howell, Kylie Howell, and Thomas Howell; as well as her three brothers: Ronnie & Mearl Griffin of Lenox, Donnie & Kelly Griffin of Monticello, FL, and Raymond & Dorian Griffin of De Land, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Thomas D. Pickard and a brother: Bobby Griffin.
