Mary Linda “Mickey” Dorminy Foreman, 79, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, November 5, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael Ruffin officiating. Eulogies will be given by Jackie Harden and Beth McQuaig. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM on Friday evening.
Mickey was born June 26, 1932 in Fitzgerald to the late Roy and Linda Forrester Dorminy. She graduated from Fitzgerald High School in 1949, Tift College in 1953 and received her Master’s Degree in teaching from Rollins College. Mickey was a beloved teacher and mentor to many students. Her influence was felt throughout the state through English, speech and theater. She won numerous one act competitions that launched the professional acting careers of former students. She received many awards that included Star Teacher, Teacher Of The Year, Fitzgerald’s Citizen Of The Year, Fitzgerald Ben Hill Arts Council Person Of The Year and Jr. Women’s Club Mother Of The Year. Mickey’s involvement with the Arts found her appointed to the Georgia Council for the Arts. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Nathaniel Abney Chapter of the DAR, Fitzgerald Review Club, Blue-Gray Memorial Association and the Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Library Board.
She is survived by her son, Dr. John William Seanor, Lexington, KY; grandson, William Kelby Seanor, Lexington, KY; brother, William R. "Bill" Dorminy, Maitland, FL; niece, Janie Dorminy (Gerald) Sutton, Winter Park, FL and a great niece, Sarina Natalie Sutton. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Homer D. Foreman.
