Obituary

Leda Lucille (Poyerd) Smith, 83, of Groton passed away peacefully at home on May 28, 2015 surrounded by her family.

She was born January 19, 1932 in Norwich, CT to Leda (Fowe) and William Poyerd. She attended St. Patrick Cathedral School in Norwich and was a member of St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton.

On November 11, 1950, she was married to Carlton Norman Smith and they were happily married for 58 years. He predeceased her in 2009. She was also predeceased by 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

She is survived by 6 daughters and 2 sons (which includes 2 sets of twins), 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Leda was a beautiful woman who was always guided by her desire to make sure that the lives of her loved ones were taken care of. She loved to laugh and always had a beautiful smile. She was a strong woman and mother who made countless sacrifices for others. She was one of those rare people who truly believed it was better to give than to receive. Her love and devotion to her family was endless. She will be sadly missed.

A private family graveside service will be held in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic, CT. Donations in her memory may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society or Hospice of SECT.
