Laura "Dolly" W. (Wodock) Wrigley of Mattapoisett, MA, Dania Beach, FL, and formerly of Doylestown, PA, died on Saturday September 11, 2010 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. She was the wife of the late Byron William Wrigley, Jr., to whom she was married for 64 years.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on September 29, 1916, the daughter of the late Raymond and Laura (Scholz) Wodock, she lived in Doylestown for 65 years before retiring to Dania Beach in 1982. Since the late 1990s Dolly and Bill summered with family in Mattapoisett and became full-time residents in 2007.
She was a graduate of Doylestown High School, class of 1936, where she was an outstanding athlete in swimming and field hockey. She later graduated from Lansdale School of Business.
Mrs. Wrigley was formerly employed as a telephone operator during World War II. She later worked as a librarian for Bucks County, and for the Central Bucks School District as a secretary at the Doyle Elementary School.
She officiated Youth Recreation Council girl's basketball games and sponsored Youth Recreation Council Co-Op teen dances for ten years. She was a member of Doylestown's Fanny Chapman Swimming Pool for 60 years, and a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
Throughout her life, Laura was a lover of bridge and books. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a loving wife.
Survivors include three children, Karen Manning, retired teacher of Mattapoisett, Byron William Wrigley, III, retired banking executive of Dania Beach, and Janice Wrigley, teacher of Indiana, PA; a son-in-law, David Manning of Mattapoisett; three grandchildren, Shannon Leary of Dover, MA, Jason Yeager of Pittsburgh, and Gregory Yeager of Indiana, PA; a grandson-in-law, Angus Leary, Sr.; two great-grandchildren, Angus Leary, Jr. and Finnegan Byron Leary; two brothers, Donald Wodock of Lancaster, PA, and Raymond Wodock of Lehman, PA; and a sister, Mary Evans of Doylestown.
She was the sister of the late Gertrude Wodock, Joseph Wodock and Francis Wodock.
There will be a private family service at Doylestown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home, 200 Hawthorn St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
