Obituary

Edwin Hoit Paul, Esq., age 73, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday morning, February 7, 2012, at his Norfolk home. He was the beloved husband of Yvonne Marie (Anderson) Paul.

Born in Framingham on July 13, 1938, he was the son of the late Edwin H. and Doris C. (Stoddard) Paul. Edwin spent his early years in California, returning to Natick as a teen. He was a 1956 graduate of Natick High School and earned a BS in Engineering from Brown University. He continued his education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, achieving a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Ed was employed for over twenty years as an engineer, first with Honeywell International and later with Waters Associates in Milford. After a move to Milford, he began to follow a longtime interest by going to school at night to study law. He ultimately received a Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University and embarked on his new career working with Perkins Smith and Cohen of Boston. He was currently employed with Cesari and McKenna LLP, specializing in patent law - prosecuting trademark and patent infringements both nationally and abroad. His scope encompassed intellectual property, manufactured goods, high tech software issues and more.

Most happy among his large family, Ed was a history buff and wordsmith who enjoyed sharing his knowledge with those around him. He loved trivia and other intellectual stimuli and was an enthusiastic sportsman who excelled at squash, racquetball, and golf. He had also set several track and field records while in high school. Ed greatly supported his children’s endeavors and had been particularly active with the Boy Scouts of America Norfolk Troop 80 and as a supporter for the Norfolk 4H Cottontail Club as well as the music program at King Philip Regional School.

He also found time to dabble in local politics and liked a good game of Cribbage.

In addition to Yvonne, he is survived by five daughters and a son, Christine Ann Paul-Sudbey and husband Mark of Sandy Hook, CT, Ellen Judith Paul of Roslindale, Marybeth Paul and husband James McGonagle of Natick, Amy Laura Paul teDuits of Westwood, and Matthew John Paul and Renee Marie Paul both of Norfolk; eleven grandchildren, Kathryn, Lauren, Erin, Justice, Chase, Grant, Kayley, Brynn, Patrick, Michael and Kristin; two sisters, Linda Ann Paul Webster of Millbury and Susan Paul-Pecevich and husband Philip of Chapel Hill, NC; and many nieces and nephews and their families.
